Open Wide
.

At a push
I can just about, with a rush
Be on time at my dentist
Anticipation giving way to trepidation
When the door closes behind me

And I give myself up
To his tender ministrations
Open wide is his constant theme
With which I reluctantly comply
Relief comes with deep-felt sigh
When he brightly states
A scale and polish will do fine
Until the next time
Reprieved, I share a joke and walk away
The bravest man in the surgery
Until the next time
