ALCOHOL RELATED DEATH
Derby Coroner's
Court heard how a Breaston man tragically passed away at a friend's house after
consuming too much alcohol. On February 29th Richard Smyth, 55, Originally from
Preston, drank five or six cans of lager before falling to sleep on his
friend's sofa in Long Eaton. When his friend returned he found Mr Smyth
unresponsive and Paramedics were called who pronounced Mr Smyth dead at the
scene. The inquest heard how Mr Smyth, who was divorced and unemployed, had a
history of drink problems and had previously seen a doctor who advised him to
down on alcohol. Acute ethanol intoxication was the medical cause of death. A
postmortem examination revealed that the ethanol concentration showed profound
and potentially fatal intoxication.
